Bolts bats break out in 12-5 win06/13/2012 9:55 PM
ROCKFORD, IL – The ThunderBolts scored a season-high 12 runs in a seven-run victory in the series finale at Rockford’s RiverHawks Stadium Wednesday night. The RiverHawks scored a first-inning run to take a 1-0 lead, but the Bolts responded in the third. After Travis Weaver walked and Chris Wade singled, Mike Torres doubled them both home to give Windy City a 2-1 lead. Torres had three hits in the game. They broke it open in the fourth, scoring five runs. Billy Nowlin reached on a fielder’s choice after Chad Cregar had walked and Jareck West followed with a double to put men at second and third with one out. Weaver was hit by a pitch loading the bases for Wade, who came through with a two run single. Torres followed with another single and an error on the play by Michael Hur allowed two runs to score and moved Torres all the way up to third base. He scored on a Brandon Decker groundout. Rockford scored an unearned run in the fourth to make it 7-2 before the pitching took over for a while. Dustin Williams pitched a strong seven innings, allowing just three total runs. The final run he gave up came in the seventh when Evan Button doubled and Jet Butler singled him in with two outs. Their once six-run lead down to four, the ThunderBolts added another run in the eighth. After Billy Nowlin was hit by a pitch, Wade doubled him in. The game became a runaway in the ninth, when Chad Cregar hit a three-run homer, his sixth of the year. A walk and an error led up to Wade, who singled home Jareck West for his fourth hit and fourth RBI of the game. West reached base four times in the game and Decker, with a ninth-inning single, extended his season-high hit streak to ten games. Rockford got two in the bottom of the ninth on a Greg Van Horn home run to seal the score at 12-5. Williams (3-2) picked up the win, while Rockford starter Cory Trudell (0-2), in the first start of his career, pitched four innings and took the loss. The Bolts will come home to begin a three-game series with the Southern Illinois Miners on Thursday night. Game one of the series will feature Blayne Weller (0-0, 3.68) on the mound for Windy City and Brian Fowler (3-0, 2.70) will counter for the Miners. It is $1.25 beer night at Standard Bank Stadium for Bud Light Thirsty Thursday. It is a 7:05 start time.
