Bolts split marathon doubleheader

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Washington Wild Things scored four runs in the 12th inning to end a long game one of Sunday’s doubleheader at Standard Bank Stadium.
The Wild Things picked up three hits and a run in the top of the first, but Windy City responded with a Nick Kuroczko double followed by a Devin Shepherd RBI single in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at one.
After the Shepherd single, Justin Hall settled in, retiring ten straight ThunderBolts.
Washington retook the lead in the fifth inning. After Emilio Ontiveros reached on an error, Scott Lawson laid down a bunt single and Ontiveros eventually scored on a Luis Rivera sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Bolts were again able to tie the score. Brandon Anderson led off with a double and later crossed the plate on Mike Torres’ RBI groundout.
The game remained tied until the twelfth inning when Scott Lawson led off with a double and came in to score on Luis Rivera’s single. Later in the inning, Eric Stephens doubled home three more runs to make the final score, 6-2.
Justin Hall went 11 innings for the win (10-7) and Matt Jernstad took the loss in relief (8-11). Dustin Williams started for the Bolts and struck out six, establishing a new Frontier League record with 157 for the season.
Game two pits Guido Fonseca (3-11) against Jhonny Montoya (4-7) and will conclude the season for both teams.
