Wild Things down Windy City

Kraig Binick went 2-for-3 with two RBI including a bases loaded single in the loss to the Wild Things
The Washington Wild Things smacked five homeruns and Jacob Dempsey drove in four runs as the Wild Things downed the Windy City ThunderBolts 11-5 in front of 3,456 fans; the largest crowd of the season at Standard Bank Stadium

Despite the loss, Windy City maintains a slight lead for first place in the West Division over River City.

The long ball plagued the Bolts as in the second inning, Jacob Dempsey and Brett Grandstrand went deep, the latter a three-run shot thanks to a Windy City error, giving Washington a 4-0 lead. In the third it was more of the same as Chris Sidick banged his eighth homerun of the season off the foul pole in right for a 5-0 Wild Things advantage.

The ThunderBolts climbed back in the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as they loaded the bases up on two walks and a single before Kraig Binick came up and lined a single into center, bringing J. T. Restko and Bryan Cook plateward, pulling Windy City back to 5-2.

Two innings later the Bolts would get another run back as with runners on the corners, Pete Paris lifted a sac fly to center, scoring Robert Perry, making it 5-3. The momentum was halted in the top of the seventh as Washington loaded up the bases before Dempsey came up and drove a bases clearing double into right-centerfield for an 8-3 Wild Things lead. Ryan Groth hit a two-run homer in the eighth followed by a solo shot from Matt Sutton for Washington to go up 11-3.

Windy City rallied in the ninth getting runs on a Gilberto Mejia triple to score Gil Zayas who had singled and a base hit from Robert Perry to bring home Mejia to cement the 11-5 final.

Brian McCullough (5-4) picked up the win going 5.1 innings allowing three runs on six hits. Ricky Meinhold (2-1) took the loss allowing three earned runs in 6+ innings.

The middle game of the Washington series is on Saturday with Matt Jernstad (4-4, 2.86) will get the call for the ThunderBolts against Andy Schindling (4-2, 4.13) for the Wild Things. Saturday is Elvis Night at Standard Bank Stadium with a pregame concert from Jerry Elvis Vegas. It is also the Best Bang for Nine Bucks with a postgame fireworks extravaganza.
