Bird Flies Away With Win Over 'Bolts, 5-007/19/2008 9:03 PM
CRESTWOOD -- The Windy City ThunderBolts (26-26) were defeated for the second night in a row by the Southern Illinois Miners (29-24) by a score of 5-0 at Standard Bank Stadium on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 2,783. Ryan Bird (8-3) pitched brilliantly going 8.0 shutout innings giving up just two hits, three walks, while striking out nine batters. Bird is now 4-0 in July and leads the Frontier League with 87 strikeouts. Windy City didn't get their first hit of the game until the sixth inning after Chris Klepps singled to left field. Amos Ramon (3-3) pitched well throwing 7.0 innings giving up two runs on five hits while walking none and striking out five in the loss. Kyle Zweber made his ThunderBolts debut in the eighth pitching a scoreless frame while walking one batter. Anthony Rebyanski came in the ninth inning and gave up three runs working in his second consecutive game before Matt Petty finished the contest. The ThunderBolts will now prepare for the final game of the three-game series against the Miners Sunday at 6:05. The match-up will feature RHP Stephen Flake (5-1, 4.05) for Windy City against RHP Chris Allen (2-0, 1.42).
