Big innings lead to ThunderBolts win08/01/2023 8:38 PM
 CRESTWOOD, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts scored five runs in the second inning to take a big lead over the Lake Erie Crushers. Then they scored four more in the seventh to put the game away in a 9-3 win at Ozinga Field Tuesday night. Zarion Sharpe, making his first start of the year for the Crushers (27-40), retired the first four batters of the game before the next five men reached for the ThunderBolts (28-38). Micah Yonamine started the charge with a double, Jake Boone walked and Dan Robinson picked up an RBI single to start the scoring. Jonathan Waite brought home the next run on a base hit and Troy Viola scored two more on a triple. Viola crossed the plate after a wild pitch. Lake Erie responded with a pair of homers in the fourth. Kemuel Thomas-Rivera hit a two-run shot and a solo home run for Jackson Pritchard brought the Crushers within two but Logan Schmitt settled down and didn’t allow another run. It was the bottom of the order again that sparked the ThunderBolts’ second big rally. After Robinson walked in the seventh, Waite doubled and Junior Martina picked up an RBI single. Bren Spillane’s two-run double made it 8-3 and a Peyton Isaacson RBI groundout capped the scoring. Schmitt (4-2) lasted seven innings and picked up the win. Sharpe (0-1) recorded only four outs, allowing five runs as he took the loss. Game two of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 6:35. Garrett Christman (5-2, 2.65) gets the start for the Bolts against Lake Erie’s Angelo Baez (4-6, 3.27).
