Six-run inning launches ThunderBolts to victory

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts poured it on with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they defeated the Washington Wild Things 10-5 at Ozinga Field Saturday night.

The Wild Things (26-33) broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third on a Wagner Lagrange RBI groundout.

The Bolts (26-32) responded in the bottom of the fourth on a Troy Viola hit by pitch with the bases load and one out. Paul Coumoulos gave the Bolts the 2-1 lead on a ground out to second.

The Bolts broke the dam in the bottom of the fifth. Dan Robinson drove in the first run of the inning on a double to left center. Then Will Riley drove in two more on an RBI single. Junior Martina capped off the six-run fifth inning with a two run home run to left field, expanding the Bolts lead to 8-1.

JC Santini cut the ThunderBolts lead to four on a three RBI double down the first base line, making it 8-4 Bolts. The Wild Things added on with a sacrifice fly to left center, cutting the Bolts’ lead to 8-5.

With two men on in the bottom of the eighth, Will Riley singled to left center, reaching third on an error, cushioning the Bolts lead to 10-5.

ThunderBolts starting pitcher Javier Reynoso received his second win of the year, going six innings, giving up four runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

Wild Things starter Justin Showalter received his third loss of the year, allowing six runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings pitched. 

Sunday the Bolts will look to win their fifth straight series at Ozinga Field with first pitch at 1:05 CDT. Sunday is also JULIE Family Day. After the game fans are welcome onto the field for autographs and to play catch. Fans not in attendance can find the broadcast through wcthunderbolts.com.
