Bolts topple Wild Things 12-707/05/2023 8:13 PM
WASHINGTON, PA- The Windy City ThunderBolts toppled the Washington Wild Things 12-7 Wednesday evening at Wild Things Park.
In an electric display of offense on both sides of the field, Washington (20-27) took the lead 1-0 off a solo home run by Anthony Brocato in the bottom of the first inning.
Windy City (21-26) responded in the top of the second inning. Following a lead off walk to designated hitter Peyton Issacson, Paul Coumulous hit a double into right field putting runners at second and third base. Catcher Jonathan Waite launched a sacrifice fly to center knotting the game 1-1. With two outs, Dan Robinson smacked an RBI single over a leaping Scotty Dubrule at second base for a 2-1 Bolts lead.
In the top of the third inning, the Bolts busted open the bats. Junior Martina and Issacson each singled, putting runners at the corners. First baseman Micah Yonamine belted his fourth home run of the season to deep left field putting the Bolts up 5-1.
Windy City elevated their lead to 6-1 in the top of the fourth inning on a fielders choice and fantastic hustle from Coumoulos beating the throw to first base on a ground out. Coumouloshad four hits and scored three runs in the contest.
Washington fought back in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run by Robert Chayka. Shortly after, Abraham Sequera tripled with one out. Brocato sent his second home run of the game to deep left field, cutting the Wild Things deficit to 6-4.
Two consecutive singles by Scotty Dabrule and Wagner LaGrange put the Wild Things back in business with one out. A sacrifice fly by 2023 Frontier League All-Star Melvin Novoa cut the Bolts’ lead to 6-5 through five innings.
Following back-to-back walks in the top of the sixth to Jake Boone and Martina, the Bolts struck lightning. Issacson knocked a ball between first and second base for his third hit of the evening and another tally for a 7-5 ThunderBolts lead. With on 0-2 count, Yonmaine nailed an RBI single into left field, increasing the Bolts lead to 8-5 on his fourth RBI of the night. After a Waite walk, Robinson tore a pitch into left field for his third hit of the evening and drove in two runs for a 10-5 Bolts lead.
The ThunderBolts tacked another run in the top of the eighth inning off an RBI ground out by Will Riley for an 11-5 advantage.
The Wild Things scraped back in the bottom of the eighth inning off a base hit by Tristan Peterson making it 11-7 Windy City.
Robinson smacked his fourth hit of the evening into center field, delivering his fourth RBI on the night putting Windy City ahead 12-7 in the top of the ninth inning. Robinson reached base in all six plate appearances on the evening.
Windy City starting pitcher Logan Schmitt (2-1) tossed seven innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out four in the victory.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Wild Things clawed out a couple runs, driven in by base hits by Chayka and Peterson, chopping the Bolts lead to 11-7 in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Washington starting pitcher Jack Dellinger (1-0) threw two innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits, while walking three and striking out three.
Windy City looks to achieve their fourth consecutive winning series in the finale of the three game set on Thursday night. Taylor Sugg (3-2, 3.88) gets the start for the Bolts. First pitch from Wild Things Park is slated for 6:05 CDT and fans can find the broadcast at wcthunderbolts.com. |
