ThunderBolts win in tenth

BOX SCORE

CRESTWOOD, IL – Dan Robinson’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the tenth inning sent the ThunderBolts to a 5-4 win over the Schaumburg Boomers in front of 2,651 fans at Ozinga Field Saturday night.

The Boomers (41-34) took a quick lead thanks to three singles and a Blake Berry sacrifice fly in the top of the first but it didn’t last. In the bottom of the inning, Brynn Martinez hit a leadoff single and Jake Boone followed with a two-run homer to give the ThunderBolts (29-46) a 2-1 lead.

Boone helped add to that lead the next inning. After Nikola Vasic walked and Martinez singled, Boone singled them both home, increasing the lead to 4-1.

A two-run homer for Clint Hardy in the fourth cut it to 4-3 and that’s where the score stayed into the ninth. Layne Schnitz-Paxton retired the first two batters in the ninth inning but issued a walk to keep the game alive. The next batter, Alex Steinbach, hit a groundball to third base. A throwing error on Boone allowed Steinbach to reach base and when Peyton Isaacson mishandled the ball at first base, the second error on the play allowed the tying run to score.

In the tenth inning, The Boomers loaded the bases but Dazon Cole came up with a big strikeout to keep the score tied into the bottom of the inning. That’s when Robinson came through with the RBI single that evened the series at one win each.

Cole (1-2) pitched a scoreless tenth for the win and Kristian Scott (3-2) gave up the winning run for the loss.

The season series between the ThunderBolts and the Boomers concludes with a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Ozinga Field. First pitch in the opener is scheduled for 2:05. Garrett Christman and Miguel Ausua will start the two games for the Bolts and Schaumburg will counter with Miguel Reyes and Kobey Schlotman. The broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
