Bolts fall to Evansville08/09/2022 9:42 PM
CRESTWOOD, IL – The Evansville Otters scored in each of the first three innings to open an early lead as they went on to beat the ThunderBolts 7-1 in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday night at Ozinga Field. The third batter of the game, JR Davis, first put the Otters (41-31) ahead with an RBI triple. Davis scored on a Steven Sensley groundout and Evansville never trailed. The ThunderBolts (26-45) weren’t able to get their offense untracked early as they had just one hit over the first three innings. Evansville took advantage, doubling their lead with single runs in the second and third on RBI hits from Bryan Rosario and George Callil. After an Elijah MacNamee home run in the top of the fifth inning increased the lead to 5-0, the Bolts answered with their only run in the bottom of the sixth. Jake Boone and Dan Robinson hit back-to-back singles to open the frame and Bren Spillane knocked in Boone with a base hit of his own. With two on and no outs, the ThunderBolts had a chance to make their move but Brett Adcock pitched out of further damage, retiring the next three batters. Hensley hit a solo homer the next inning and Justin Felix’s RBI single in the eighth put the game away. Adcock (5-4) allowed just a run in 6.2 innings and earned the win. Garrett Christman (2-5) gave up five runs in six innings and took the loss. Kenny Mathews (5-3, 3.49) makes the start in game two of the series as the ThunderBolts look to snap a five-game losing streak. He’ll be opposed by Evansville’s Austin Gossman (7-3, 2.93). It is Senior and Military Appreciation Night at Ozinga Field with a 7:05 scheduled first pitch. The broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com. |
