Slow start dooms ThunderBolts in loss to Greys

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Empire State Greys scored four runs in the first inning and cruised to their fourth win of the year, beating the ThunderBolts 10-4 at Ozinga Field Friday night.

The ThunderBolts (24-39) settled down as Adam Wheaton, making his pro debut on the mound, put three straight zeroes on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the fourth, Jake Boone singled and scored on a Matt Morgan base hit.

Empire State pulled away with two runs in the fifth on a Garcia two-run single. He homered in the seventh and finished the game with three hits and four RBIs in his return to Crestwood.

Dan Robinson hit an RBI single in the fifth, Jairus Richards homered in the sixth and Morgan doubled home a run in the eighth but the Bolts were fighting an uphill battle and couldn’t climb closer than four runs behind.
