Big Trois-Riviéres comeback fells Bolts in series opener

TROIS-RIVIÉRES, QUEBEC – The ThunderBolts scored 12 runs on 14 hits but the Trois-Riviéres Aigles scored ten times in the seventh inning to knock off the Bolts 14-12 in the first ever meeting between the two teams at Stade Quillorama Tuesday night.

Playing their first game in Canada in over ten years, the ThunderBolts (24-46) got off to a great start. After Daryl Myers began the game with a walk, Payton Robertson hit a two-run homer. Although Trois-Riviéres (32-29) scored in each of the first two innings, the Bolts never trailed. Peyton Isaacson hit a solo home run in the second and Dan Robinson hit an RBI single in the third, making the score 4-2.

Trois-Riviéres tied the score on a Connor Panas two-run homer in the fifth but the ThunderBolts answered with eight straight runs. Matt Morgan hit two-run homers in back-to-back innings, Myers hit a two-run single and Jairus Richards drove in a run on his third hit of the game, extending the lead to 12-4 at the seventh inning stretch.

The game turned around with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Nine straight batters reached base for Trois-Riviéres. They hit five singles, drew two walks and Steve brown hit a two-run double. By the end of the rally, the Aigles had a two-run lead.

Bryan Ketchie started for the Bolts and allowed four runs in six innings. Brayden Bonner (0-1) took the loss. He allowed five runs without recording an out. Taylor Lepard (1-2) closed the game with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief and picked up the win for Trois-Riviéres.

After scoring 27 runs over their last two games, the ThunderBolts will try to keep the offense rolling and bounce back in game two of the series on Wednesday night. Kenny Mathews (4-2, 3.68) will get the start for the Bolts. First pitch from Stade Quillorama is scheduled for 6:05 CDT.
