Robinson, Bullpen Shine in Nail Biting Win

Joliet, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts won their second straight game, holding on to beat the Joliet Slammers, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Duly Health and Care Field. Dan Robinson had two doubles, drove in two runs and reached base four times, while six Bolts pitchers combined to seal the win.

For the second straight day, the Slammers (18-18) took the first lead, only for the Bolts (16-17) to respond right away.

Brylie Ware collected an RBI double in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0 Joliet. In the top of the second, Pierce Jones’ sacrifice fly and Dan Robinson’s RBI double gave the Bolts the lead.

After the Robinson double, the Bolts never trailed. They got insurance runs in the fourth and fifth on an RBI single by Brian Fuentes and a sacrifice fly by Robinson.

Joliet cut the lead to one run on Tyler Depreta-Johnson’s two-run single in the sixth.

Kenny Mathews, Ryan Miller, Justin Miller, Cal Djuraskovic, Daniel Kight and Layne Schnitz-Paxton all pitched for the Bolts, holding Joliet to three runs. Ryan Miller (1-0) earned the win, pitching a 1-2-3 fourth inning. Schnitz-Paxton (5) earned the save, stranding the tying run at third with a strikeout to end the game.

Cam Zunkel (0-1) took the loss, with the Bolts scoring three runs in 3.2 innings off the righty.

The ThunderBolts look to sweep the Slammers tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM CDT. The broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
