ThunderBolts unable to dig out of early hole in loss

BOX SCORE

CRESTWOOD, IL – After falling behind early, the ThunderBolts were unable to complete a two-game sweep of the Schaumburg Boomers, dropping Saturday night’s contest 9-4 in front of 2,334 fans at Ozinga Field.

Schaumburg (12-8) jumped on Bolts starter Tyler Thornton early, scoring a run just two batters into the game. Alec Craig singled and Chase Dawson tripled him in. Dawson scored on a William Salas groundball.

The Boomers doubled their lead the next inning on a two-run Cris Ruiz homer.

Manny Garcia tried to keep the ThunderBolts (11-9) alive. Garcia got the Bolts on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. He then cut the deficit to 4-2 when he knocked in Jake Boone on an RBI triple in the third.

That was as close as the game was the rest of the way. Craig hit an RBI single in the fourth and the Boomers added two more runs in the fifth to make it 7-2.

The ThunderBolts got a rally going in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases with no outs. Daryl Myers and Peyton Isaacson each came up with an RBI single but that was all they could muster. Schaumburg added two late runs to cap the score at 9-4.

Aaron Glickstein (1-0) picked up the win for the Boomers, allowing just two hits over three shutout innings of relief. Thornton (2-3) took the loss. He gave up seven runs over 4.2 innings.

After playing 15 of their first 20 games at home, the ThunderBolts will begin their first six-game road trip of the season following two days off. The trip starts in Evansville on Tuesday night with game one of three against the Otters. Kenny Mathews (1-1, 4.09) will get the start for the Bolts. First pitch is slated for 6:35 CDT and the broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
