ThunderBolts' win streak snapped in blowout05/29/2022 5:56 PM
CRESTWOOD, IL – The New York Boulders broke open a tie score with seven runs in the top of the third inning and they didn’t let up, snapping the ThunderBolts’ five-game winning streak in a 16-6 final at Ozinga Field Sunday afternoon. After the Boulders (7-9) scored an early 1-0 lead, Payton Robertson hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the second to knot the game at one. The ThunderBolts (8-7), though, stranded five base runners over the first two innings. New York ran away, sending ten batters to the plate in the wild third inning. Chris Kwitzer had the big hit, a three-run homer, and Jake MacKenzie made it back-to-back with his first longball of the year. A Tucker Nathans home run poured three more runs onto the lead in the sixth, making it 11-1 before the Bolts scored again. The ThunderBolts ended up scoring in each of the final three innings to make it a strong offensive day. Jake Boone hit a two-run double, Daryl Myers brought home a run on a base hit and the Bolts took advantage of four late New York errors to add a few more runs. The Boulders, however, never stopped scoring, plating four runs in the eighth before the final tally was logged in the ninth inning. Robby Rowland (1-1), the surprise starter on three days’ rest, allowed only a run on five hits for his first win of the year. Tyler Thornton (2-2) gave up eight runs over three innings for the loss. The ThunderBolts will have Memorial Day off before returning to play on the road at Gateway on Tuesday. In their first look at the first-place Grizzlies this year, Kenny Mathews (1-1, 5.87) gets the game one start against Gateway’s Brendan Feldmann (2-0, 2.65). First pitch from GCS Credit Union Park is set for 6:45 and the game broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com. |
