Late offense dooms ThunderBolts in loss

Box Score

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts overcame an early 3-0 deficit and came back to tie the score at Ozinga Field Friday night, but the Quebec Capitales scored three late runs to put away a 7-4 win.

For the second consecutive evening, the ThunderBolts (1-1) fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Jonathan Lacroix’s two-run single put Quebec (1-0) on top.

The Capitales added another run in the top of the third on a wild pitch before the Bolts took to the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom of the inning. Brynn Martinez walked and Payton Robertson tripled him in. The next batter, Nikola Vasic, singled home Robertson to cut the deficit to one.

A solo homer for David Glaude pushed the Quebec lead to 4-2 before Daryl Myers tied with a home run of his own, the first of the year for Windy City. Three batters later, Jake Boone hit a line drive to center. When Lacroix slipped on the turf, the ball bounced over his head to the wall and Boone made it all the way around for an inside-the-park home run, tying the score at four.

Quebec took over after that, though, getting two runs in the seventh. Josh McAdams’s two-run double proved to be the game-winner. A wild pitch in the top of the ninth plated the final run to make it a three-run game.

John Witkowski (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing two runs in an inning of relief. Sebastian Selway (0-1) allowed two runs in two innings and took the loss.

The series continues with game two on Saturday night. Garrett Christman makes his debut on the mound against Quebec’s Codie Paiva. It is Crestwood Community Night at Ozinga Field with a 6:05 CDT scheduled first pitch. The broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
