Wiley’s Complete Game Powers Bolts

JOLIET, IL – Logan Wiley threw his first professional complete game to propel the Windy City ThunderBolts to a 7-2 win over the Joliet Slammers on Tuesday night at DuPage Medical Group Field. Wiley joins Kenny Mathews as the only two Bolts (21-32) with complete games this season.

Wiley began the night with three shutout innings. The Slammers (19-34) used a pair of two-out hits, including an RBI double from Terry Daniels to make it 1-0.

Wiley was on the wrong end of a pitcher’s duel until the sixth inning when the Bolts rewarded him with six runs. Brynn Martinez put the Bolts ahead for good with a two-run single. Payton Robertson added to the lead with an RBI single of his own. Hunter Wells cleared the bases with a double to make it 6-1 Bolts.

The only other blemish against Wiley was in the bottom of the sixth. Again, it was Daniels with an RBI for Joliet, this time on a fielder’s choice.

The Bolts added on in the eighth on another RBI single for Payton Robertson.

Wiley took it the rest of the way on the mound. With runners at the corners and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Wiley threw his 120th pitch of the night, a game-clinching double play ball. Wiley (3-1) earned the win, allowing two runs on 12 hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Cam Aufderheide (0-6) suffered the loss, yielding five runs over 5.2 innings.

The Bolts and Slammers play games two and three of the series tomorrow in a seven-inning doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 CT. For live coverage and tickets, fans can find video and audio links at wcthunderbolts.com
