Bolts Falter After Miners Late Surge07/24/2021 8:06 PM
MARION, IL – After surrendering three eighth inning runs, the Windy City ThunderBolts lost 4-2 against the Southern Illinois Miners on Saturday night at Rent One Park. Entering the night, the Bolts were 19-3 when leading after seven innings. After a shutout win in game one of the series, another strong start on the mound highlighted the beginning of the night for the Bolts (20-31). Tyler Thornton cruised through seven innings of one-run ball. The offense came to Thornton’s aid in the third inning. Zac Taylor hit a ground-rule double and scored on Payton Robertson’s RBI triple. The next hitter, Zach Racusin made it 2-0 Bolts with a sacrifice fly. The only run Thornton allowed occurred in the fifth inning. A leadoff walk followed by a single put runners at first and second with none out. Arturo Nieto laid down a sacrifice to advance the runners. The next batter, Jarrod Watkins, hit a sacrifice fly to cut the Bolts lead to 2-1. The score remained in the Bolts favor until the decisive eighth inning. With Thornton out of the game, Dylan Prohoroff came out of the pen. He retired the first two hitters. However, the next three batters all singled, including a game-tying hit by Ian Walters. Prohoroff was pulled after the Walters single. Stetson Woods entered with runners at second and third and threw a wild pitch, allowing the go-ahead run to cross. Anthony Brocato collected the Miners fourth straight two-out single to make it 4-2 Southern Illinois. Prohoroff (0-2) suffered the loss after being charged with all three eighth inning runs. Blake Stelzer (2-0) earned the win, tossing a scoreless eighth. Joey Pulido (3) worked around a one-out single in the ninth to get the save. The Bolts and Miners play game three of the series Sunday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 CT. For live coverage and tickets, fans can find video and audio links at wcthunderbolts.com. |
