Bolts Drop Series Opener at Lake Erie

AVON, OH – The Windy City ThunderBolts lost the opening game of a three-game series, 4-2, against the Lake Erie Crushers on Friday night at Mercy Health Stadium. The Bolts (11-21) have lost all four games against the Crushers this season.

The offense pushed the ThunderBolts ahead in the game’s opening inning. Former Crusher Zach Racusin doubled to lead off the first. He reached third on a Dan Robinson single. Racusin scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 Bolts. A batter later, Jairus Richards singled to bring Robinson home increasing the lead to 2-0.

The Crushers scored the rest of the runs. In the bottom of the first, a lead-off error allowed Steven Kraft to reach second. He scored on the next batter when Isaac Benard singled to left. In the second inning, the Crushers took the lead for good when Eric Callahan lined a two-run double to center. The Crushers padded their advantage in the third on Steve Passatempo’s RBI knock.

The pitching took over the final six innings of the game. Left-hander Kenny Mathews was the only pitcher used for the Bolts. Mathews (1-5) tossed eight innings and allowed four runs (three earned) in the losing effort. Jake Pilarski (1-0) earned the win for the Crushers. After a lead-off double in the second, he didn’t allow another hit on his way to six innings of one-run ball. Taylor Sugg set up Daniel Kight (3) for the save.

The Bolts and Crushers play the middle game of the three-game series Saturday night at 6:05 CT. For live coverage, fans can find video and audio links at wcthunderbolts.com.
