CRESTWOOD, IL – A dominant performance from four Wild Things pitchers shut down the offense of Windy City, as the ThunderBolts dropped game two of a weekend series 7-0 in front of 2,619 fans at Ozinga Field Saturday evening. Austin Jones got the start for the ThunderBolts (17-21) and allowed two runs, one being earned, leading up to the sixth inning. Washington (15-23), though, managed a four-run sixth to put the game out of reach after two singles, a double and a three-run homer to go up 6-0. The Wild Things tacked on a run of insurance in the seventh inning thanks to an RBI single from Mikael Mogues to cap the score at 7-0. Tyler Thornton made his return back to the ThunderBolts, who pitched for the first time since June 5. Thornton allowed one run in 2.1 innings out of the bullpen. Windy City got offensive contributions from Tyler Alamo, Shane Carrier and Trey Fulton, but could only manage six total base runners. The Bolts were shutout for the sixth time this season, which is a Frontier League high. Nick Wegmann (3-3) was sharp in his 6.1 innings of scoreless ball and got the win. Jones (1-2) was tacked with the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits in 5.2 innings while striking out eight and walking one. The ThunderBolts turn to Chris Washington (1-4, 2.75) on Sunday in an effort to break a five-game losing skid against Washington’s AJ Bogucki (0-1, 4.91). Sunday is Julie Inc. Family Day at the ballpark, which will feature a petting zoo courtesy of Animals for Awareness. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3FM and wxav.com. |
