CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts scored five runs in the second inning and rode 6.1 shutout innings of relief from Patrick Ledet to a 6-3 win over the Schaumburg Boomers in game one of a day/night doubleheader at Standard Bank Stadium Thursday afternoon. Zack Weigel hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning to give the Boomers (34-28) a quick 1-0 lead. The Bolts (24-38) responded in the second when Riley Krane tied the score on a solo homer of his own. They loaded the bases on singles for Ronnie Healy and Will Krug and an Omar Obregon walk. Tim Zier brought home the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice and Axel Johnson extended the edge with a two-run double. Blair Beck’s single scored Johnson to make it 5-1. Connor Bach started for the Bolts and struggled to throw strikes in the third. After two walks and a bunt single loaded the bases, Weigel walked to score a run and Ledet came out of the bullpen. After a Ty Moore sacrifice fly made the score 5-3, Ledet got out of the inning on a double play and allowed only one baserunner over the next five innings. The Bolts tacked on their final run in the eighth inning as Beck knocked in Johnson on another RBI single. After Ledet allowed two hits in the ninth, Devin Raftery entered with one out in the ninth and got a game ending double-play for his seventh save. Ledet (5-6) picked up the win and Kit Fowler (0-5) allowed five runs in six innings to take the loss. The four-game series concludes with game two on Thursday night. It is Bud Light Thirsty Thursday at Standard Bank Stadium as well as White Castle Wrestling Night featuring X-Pac and an hour-long postgame show from Wrestle League. Jake Welch (4-3, 3.77) is the ThunderBolts’ starting pitcher for the 7:05 start. The broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com. |
