EVANSVILLE, IN – The Evansville Otters scored seven runs in the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat the ThunderBolts 7-3 in the finale at Bosse Field Sunday evening. The ThunderBolts (23-36) got off to a good start in their quest for a series sweep as they scored the first run of the game in the third inning. Joe Becht reached on an error, moved up to second on an Omar Obregon single and scored on a Tim Zier RBI base hit, one of three hits in the game for Zier. They added to their lead in the fourth. Tyler Straub walked and Riley Krane singled with one out. Straub scored on a Ronnie Healy single and Krane came home on Joe Becht’s sacrifice fly. The Bolts seemed to have the game in hand as Braulio Torres-Perez had allowed only two hits, both infield singles, through his first six innings. With one out in the seventh, though, the Otters (29-30) got their offense going as nine consecutive hitters reached base. Travis Harrison started the scoring with a two-run single and Daniel Spingola tied the score with an RBI base hit. Brant Whiting, Jeff Gardner and Hunter Cullen each ended up with an RBI hit as well as the rally produced seven runs and put the Bolts down by four. The ThunderBolts stranded six runners on base over the final four innings, as they were unable to score the rest of the way. Austin Nicely (5-3) allowed three runs (two earned) over seven innings for the win and Torres-Perez (1-1) gave up four runs in 6.1 innings for the loss. The ThunderBolts return home for a four-game series with the Schaumburg Boomers on Tuesday, Big Splash Day I presented by Pirate’s Cay Indoor Water Park. Eddie Avila (0-4, 6.33) gets the game one start against Schaumburg’s Kit Fowler (0-4, 5.40). First pitch is scheduled for 10:35. Before the Schaumburg series begins, the Bolts will take on the Chicago Bandits in an exhibition softball game at Standard Bank Stadium Monday night. That game will start at 7:05. |
