ThunderBolts capture game one at Gateway07/02/2018 9:00 PM
SAUGET, IL – Riley Krane gave the ThunderBolts a lead with a two-run home run in the sixth inning and the Bolts held on the rest of the way for a 4-1 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies at GCS Credit Union Ballpark Monday night. Gateway (19-29) got on the scoreboard first with a run in the second inning. Back-to-back walks were followed by a Paul Russo RBI single. Connor Bach settled in after the second and finished the game with a career-high nine strikeouts while keeping the ThunderBolts alive by not allowing any more runs. The Bolts (16-29) tied the score in the fifth inning without a hit when Omar Obregon reached on a dropped third strike. He stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on the third wild pitch of the inning. Tyler Straub’s single in the sixth preceded the Krane homer that put the Bolts ahead for good at 3-1. They added one more to their lead in the seventh when Jonathan McCray singled and stole second. He scored on a Tim Zier single. Drew Peden came out of the bullpen with the lead in the sixth and shut down the Gateway offense the rest of the way. He picked up his first career save, going four shutout innings while striking out four. Bach (1-1) picked up the win, allowing one run in five innings and Mike Elwood took the loss. He gave up four runs in six innings and struck out nine. The ThunderBolts go for the series win on Tuesday night. Paddy Ledet (3-4, 3.69) makes the game two start against Gateway’s Alec Kisena (3-2, 4.06). First pitch from GCS Credit Union Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com. |
