CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts jumped out to a five-run first inning lead and carried all the way to a 7-5 victory over the Washington Wild Things in front of 2,332 fans at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night. After a perfect top half of the first from starter Will Landsheft, the ThunderBolts (8-10) got a little help in scoring their first run in the bottom of the inning. Larry Balkwill was hit by a pitch and Brandon Rawe walked before Riley Krane came up with the bases loaded and launched a home run over the left field fence to put the Bolts ahead 5-0. The Wild Things (11-9) got on the board in the third with back-to-back two-out hits. Brett Marr singled and scored on a James Harris triple, but Blair Beck pushed the lead back to five with his first home run of the year in the fourth Washington scored their second run on a Justin Bohn RBI double in the fifth but the Bolts responded again as David Oppenheim doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. Three walks culminated in a Beck RBI, scoring Oppenheim. A three-run eighth inning for Washington made the game interesting as Roman Collins, Reydel Medina and Hector Roa each came up with RBI hits, but Devin Raftery shut the door with two strikeouts in the ninth as he earned his fifth save. Landsheft (2-0) gave up two runs over seven innings to earn the win and Daniel Garmendia (0-2) allowed six runs (one earned) over five innings to take the loss.
