CRESTWOOD, IL – Jake Fisher tied his career high with 11 strikeouts as he threw his third complete game of the year in a 1-0 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums in front of 2,779 fans at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night. Fisher found his only trouble in the second inning when Traverse City (28-46) loaded the bases on singles by Luke Lowery, Alexis Rivera and Quintin Alexander. With one out, he struck out Josh Hauser and then ended the inning, getting Orlando Rivera to ground out. Fisher settled into a groove then, retiring 16 straight hitters. Reinaldo Lopez started for the Beach Bums and dominated early, holding the ThunderBolts (41-34) hitless over the first five innings. Coco Johnson picked up the first Windy City safety with a two-out single in the sixth. The Bolts broke through for the game’s only run in the seventh. Kyle Wood walked and advanced to third on a Tim Zier single. Ransom LaLonde came up with two outs and singled to center, scoring Wood and breaking the tie. The Beach Bums put a runner on in each of the last two innings but could not advance either of them. Fisher finished strong, striking out three batters in the ninth inning to wrap up his third career complete game shutout. He improved to 7-7 on the season, allowing only five hits and one walk. Lopez (3-9) was the tough luck loser. He went the distance and allowed only three hits. The ThunderBolts go for a three-game sweep on Sunday evening. It is Family Day at Standard Bank Stadium, presented by JULIE and there will be a reptile show during the game courtesy of Dave DiNaso’s Traveling World of Reptiles.
