Joliet stuns ThunderBolts with come-from-behind win08/09/2017 9:12 PM
JOLIET, IL – The ThunderBolts built an early 7-0 lead but the Joliet Slammers scored eight unanswered and walked off to an 8-7 win over the Bolts at Slammers Stadium Wednesday night. Kyle Wood and Tim Zier singled for the ThunderBolts (39-33) to start their first scoring rally in the second. Corey Bass followed with a grounder to third and the Slammers (32-40) tried to turn two to end the inning but Melvin Rodriguez’s throw sailed into the dugout to score Wood. Ransom LaLonde followed with a two-run homer. Riley Krane singled and stole second with two outs in the third. Larry Balkwill walked and Krane scored on a Wood single. Zier walked to load the bases and Bass walked to score another run. LaLonde doubled his RBI total for the day with a two-run single that made the score 7-0. Joliet started their comeback with an RBI triple for Melvin Rodriguez in the bottom of the third. Rodriguez doubled home a run in the fifth to make it 7-2. The ThunderBolts were held to only one hit after the third inning and the Slammers’ bats burst out in the eighth. Ridge Hoopii-Haslam doubled and Edwin Gomez hit a two-run homer. Spencer Navin followed with a solo home run to make it 7-5. In the ninth, with one out, Rodriguez singled to start the game-winning rally. Hoopii-Haslam singled and Gomez walked to load the bases. Danny Zardon tied the score with a two-run base hit and Navin became the fifth straight man to reach base when he singled to score pinch runner Luis Diaz and win the game. Skylar Janisse (5-3) threw three shutout innings of relief for the win and Brian Loconsole (1-2) blew his first save in his last 25 chances to take the loss. Zac Westcott threw six good innings, allowing two runs but did not factor in the decision. The rubber match of the three game series will be on Thursday night with TJ Santiago (3-3, 4.38) getting the start for the ThunderBolts. First pitch from Slammers Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com. |
