Second half opens with 7-1 win

Bolts 7 Things 1

WASHINGTON, PA – Jake Fisher did not allow an earned run in his eight innings and Coco Johnson reached base five times as they guided the ThunderBolts to a 7-1 win over the Washington Wild Things at Wild Things Park Friday night.

Washington (28-23) got on the board first thanks to a couple of first inning errors. Rashad Brown singled and James Harris reached on a Tim Zier misplay to put two on with no outs. They both advanced on another error before Kane Sweeney’s sacrifice fly made it 1-0.

The ThunderBolts (29-22) responded with two runs in the third. Ransom LaLonde singled and Coco Johnson doubled him in to tie the score. Johnson crossed the plate on a Zier single, giving the Bolts their first lead.

LaLonde doubled in the fifth and scored on a Johnson single, extending the lead to 3-1.

After the first two batters reached in the first inning, Fisher retired 15 in a row. He ran into trouble in the sixth, though, as the Wild Things loaded the bases on two singles and an error. Kane Sweeney, hitting .316 at the start of the day, grounded into a double play to end the threat.

The Bolts put it away with four runs in the ninth. Corey Bass walked and Riley Krane singled. Both men scored on a throwing error as part of LaLonde’s sacrifice bunt. Blair Beck followed with his fourth home run of the year to put the ThunderBolts ahead 7-1.

Fisher (4-4) allowed only four hits in eight innings for the win and has now gone 24 straight innings without allowing an earned run. Brian O’Keefe (2-4) allowed three runs in four innings for the loss.

The ThunderBolts and Wild Things continue their series with another 6:05 start time on Saturday night. Clay Chapman (3-4, 3.54) gets the start for the Bolts against Washington’s Trevor Foss (7-3, 2.61). The broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
