Bolts take series with comeback win

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts used five different pitchers in the rubber game against the Rascals of River City and came away victorious by a 3-2 score at Standard Bank Stadium on Father’s Day.

Left-hander Jake Stolley got the start for the ThunderBolts (19-15) and allowed just two base runners through the first three innings. In the fourth, River City (17-16) benefited from four straight singles to grab an early 2-0 lead.

Windy City answered offensively in their half of the fourth, as Kyle Wood and Blair Beck reached base to start the frame. After a David Kerian sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position, Austin Darby delivered with an RBI ground out to cut the Rascals lead in half.

The Bolts put pressure on River City pitching all afternoon. Ultimately, Windy City had 16 men reach base in the contest. They finally broke through with the bats and runners in scoring position in the seventh inning.

Tim Zier was hit by a Jason Zgardowski (1-2) pitch, while Kyle Wood reached on a walk. Blair Beck executed a sacrifice bunt to push Zier and Wood to second and third.

Down one run, David Kerian hit a ball deep enough to right field to score Zier on a sacrifice fly to tie the game. With Darby at the plate and two outs, Matt Chavarria bounced one past Rascals catcher Mike Jurgella, which scored Wood from third.

John Jaeger, Josh Glick (1-0), Scott Kuzminsky and Brian Loconsole combined for 5.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen to propel the ThunderBolts to their second straight victory. Glick got his first career win after throwing a scoreless seventh inning, while Loconsole notched his league-leading 13th save.

Windy City embarks on six-game road trip beginning Tuesday at Schaumburg. Jake Fisher (2-2) is set to matchup against the Boomers’ Kagen Hopkins (3-1). First pitch at Boomers Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 P.M. and the game broadcast can be heard through 88.3 FM or wxav.com.
