CRESTWOOD, IL – The Washington Wild Things broke a 1-1 tie with eight unanswered runs late as the Windy City ThunderBolts dropped their Frontier League opener 9-1 in front of 2,648 fans at Standard Bank Stadium Friday night. The Bolts (0-1) started out hot as Keenyn Walker led off the bottom of the first by reaching third on an error. Two batters later, Tim Zier singled him in for the first run of the year. Washington (1-0) answered quickly. In the second inning, Kane Sweeney walked and Kyle Pollock knocked him in with a two-out double. The Wild Things broke through against the Bolts’ bullpen in the sixth as Mike Hill singled, Bralin Jackson reached on an error and Sweeney walked to load the bases. Kenny Peoples-Walls broke the tie with a sacrifice fly and Pollock doubled in two more runs to make it 4-1. Five more runs followed in the eighth inning as Jackson broke the game open with a two-run single. He scored two batters later on a ThunderBolts throwing error. A sacrifice fly for Peoples-Walls and a Pollock RBI single extended the lead to 9-1. Foss (1-0) held the ThunderBolts to two hits over seven innings as he earned the victory. Chris Chigas took the loss, allowing three unearned runs in relief. Chapman tied his career high with eight strikeouts in five one-hit innings but did not factor in the decision.
