CRESTWOOD, IL – The Traverse City Beach Bums banged out 12 runs on 18 hits and won their second straight game from the Windy City ThunderBolts Sunday afternoon. 12-6 was the final score.

Jose Vargas hit his second home run in as many days in the top of the first to put the Beach Bums (13-25) on the board early.

The ThunderBolts (22-16) answered in the second, getting doubles from Reggie Lawson and Corey Bass to tie the score.

Traverse City scored the next six runs and appeared to pull away. Steven Patterson hit a two-run double in the fourth, the first of his four hits and five RBIs. They scored four runs in the sixth. Giancarlo Brugnoni and Patterson hit RBI doubles and Christian Santisteban hit a two-run single to make it 7-1.

The ThunderBolts showed they still had life with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Tim Zier singled and scored on a Lawson double. Taylor Smart drew a walk and he and Lawson both scored on a Cody Keefer single. Bass’s second RBI double made it a 7-5 game.

A run in the seventh and four more in the eighth put the game away for the Beach Bums. With two outs in the eighth inning, Brugnoni drew a bases loaded walk. Patterson and Santisteban followed with RBI singles to give the Bums the 12-5 lead.

The Bolts got one more on an RBI single for Smart in the ninth.
