Beach Bums walk-off on Bolts 6-508/22/2015 8:02 PM
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Jay Austin’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Traverse City Beach Bums a 6-5 win over the ThunderBolts at Wuerfel Park Saturday night as the Bolts suffered their third walk-off loss in as many nights. Windy City (34-49) took the game’s first lead when they got a run across in the fourth inning. Austin Gallagher and Max White hit back-to-back singles and moved up on a bunt. Cody Keefer’s RBI groundout made it a 1-0 game. Traverse City (48-33) immediately responded, scoring twice in the bottom of the inning. Austin was hit by a pitch and scored on a Brandon Jacobs double. Reggie Lawson singled home Jacobs. Gallagher and White again led off with singles in the sixth as the Bolts took the lead back. Keefer picked up another RBI when Gallagehr scored on his single. Jacob Tanis hit the next pitch over the left field wall to give the Bolts a 5-2 lead. The Beach Bums chipped away, scoring a run in the seventh on a Chris DeBoo wild pitch. DeBoo hit Jacobs in the eighth and Yazy Arbelo followed with a game-tying two-run homer. In the ninth inning, Sam Bumpers reached on a two-base error and Jeff DeBlieux was walked intentionally. After a fielder’s choice forced Bumpers out, Austin singled to right field and DeBlieux slid home just in front of White’s throw to end the game. Chucak Ghysels (6-0) threw just one pitch out of the Traverse City bullpen but received credit for the win while James Ferguson (1-1) pitched the ninth for the ThunderBolts and took the loss. Jake Fisher started for Windy City and allowed three runs in 6.1 innings. The series concludes on Sunday evening with game four at Wuerfel Park. Austin Wright (4-10, 4.30) will start for Windy City against Traverse City’s Luis DeJesus (6-3, 3.81). First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 CDT and the broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com. |
