Bolts split doubleheader with Lake Erie

Bolts 4, 4 Crushers 3, 6

CRESTWOOD, IL – Max White hit a walk-off single in the tenth inning of Saturday night’s game one at Standard Bank Stadium to give the ThunderBolts a 4-3 win over the Lake Erie Crushers before Lake Erie bounced back for a come-from-behind 6-4 win in game two.

The ThunderBolts (32-44) did not hesitate to wow the sellout crowd of 3,085 as they won the first game with just three batters. After Friday night’s game was suspended, it resumed in the bottom of the tenth on Saturday. With one out, Austin Gallagher doubled and White singled him home for the victory.

Joel Lima (3-3), who pitched two scoreless innings on Friday, picked up the win while Trevor Longfellow (5-6) gave up the winning run for the loss.

Game two’s scoring started with a Boo Vazquez solo homer in the second to put the Crushers on top 1-0. The ThunderBolts responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs. With two on, Alex Chittenden singled to right. An error on Daniel Aldrich allowed both runners to score. Chittenden crossed the plate on a Larry Balkwill double to make it 3-1.

The score remained that way until the sixth. Austin Prott singled and scored on a Jose Barrazza double and, with two outs, Vazquez hit his second home run of the game, a three-run shot to give the Crushers a 5-2 advantage.

After Lake Erie added a run on a wild pitch in the seventh, the Bolts made it interesting, getting a run in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Mike Torres. They put the tying run on base but fell short as Mike Devine got White to ground out as he earned his fourth save.

Jason Wilson (2-4) allowed three runs in five innings for the win and Travis Tingle (5-7) took the loss, going 6.2 innings and allowing six runs.

Sunday will feature the series finale at Standard Bank Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 5:05. Jake Fisher (3-6, 5.71) will get the call for the Bolts against Lake Erie’s Brad Zambron (3-4, 4.01). It is Standard Bank Family Day as fans will be able to come on to the field after the game. Those not in attendance can hear the broadcast on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
