ThunderBolts take series with 10-8 win

SCHAUMBURG, IL – The ThunderBolts erased an early deficit with ten straight runs to claim a10-8 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers at Boomers Stadium Thursday night.

The Boomers (31-44) jumped out to a big early lead as they scored four runs in the second inning. With two outs, seven straight men reached base. Ken Kirshner picked up an RBI single, Alexi Colon drew a bases loaded walk and Ty Nelson drove in two runs on a base hit.

Marquis Riley led off the next inning with a double and Alex Chittenden followed with his first career home run. The ThunderBolts (31-43) made it a one-run game on Coco Johnson’s solo homer later in the inning.

Windy City tied the score in the fifth inning and took control with a four-run sixth. Johnson’s RBI double made it 4-4 before the team came up with five hits in the sixth inning. Cody Keefer, Riley and Larry Balkwill each picked up RBI singles and Ransom LaLonde had a sacrifice fly.

The ThunderBolts distanced themselves further in the seventh. Max White, Keefer and LaLonde doubled consecutively to put one run on the board and Keefer scored on a Chittenden sacrifice fly to make it 10-4.

The Boomers made a late run, scoring four runs in the seventh. Spencer Mahoney hit a two-run double and T.J. Bennett picked up a two-run triple, but the Bolts bullpen held the line to capture the two-run win.

Zak Wasserman (4-4) allowed eight runs over a career-high 6.1 innings for the win and Peter Gehle (2-5) threw five innings and gave up seven runs for the loss. Joel Lima pitched the ninth for his sixth save.

The ThunderBolts will return home Friday night to take on the Lake Erie Crushers in game one of a three game series. Cameron Giannini (4-0, 1.47) will start the series opener for Windy City against Lake Erie’s Zach Morton (4-2, 3.46). It is Budweiser Fill ‘R Up Friday at Standard Bank Stadium with domestic draft beer selling for $1.25 and bottles for $2.25. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and fans not in attendance can tune into the broadcast at wcthunderbolts.com.
