ThunderBolts lose finale at Lake Erie

Crushers 6 Bolts 1

AVON, OH – The ThunderBolts wrapped up a 1-5 road trip Sunday afternoon as they fell to the Lake Erie Crushers 6-1 at All Pro Freight Stadium.

Lake Erie scored their first run in the second inning when Jose Barraza led off with a walk. He moved to second on a balk and to third on a flyout before scoring on Chandler Brock’s single.

The ThunderBolts responded immediately with a run in the top of the third. Larry Balkwill walked and moved up on a Mike Torres double. Balkwill scored on a Jonathan Garcia single.

The tie didn’t last as Lake Erie took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning. Emmanuel Quiles singled, went to second on a balk and scores on Austin Prott’s base hit. The Crushers added an insurance run in the fifth. With two outs, they loaded the bases on a hit batter, a single and a walk. Barraza’s single scored Prott to make it 3-1.

The ThunderBolts had squandered their best scoring chance in the fifth. They loaded the bases with one out but Hunter Adkins struck out Jonathan Garcia and Austin Gallagher to get out of the inning. Adkins allowed just one run on five hits in his seven innings.

Lake Erie put the game away with three runs in the seventh. Prott picked up his second RBI single of the game and Anderson Hidalgo drove in a run on a groundout before Barraza tripled home the sixth run of the game, the only extra-base hit of 13 total for the Crushers.

Adkins improved to 2-3 with the win for Lake Erie while Austin Wright (2-7) took the loss, allowing three runs in five innings.

The ThunderBolts take Monday off before heading home to start a six-game homestand on Tuesday. Zak Wasserman (1-3, 5.86) will start Tuesday as the Washington Wild Things come to town for a three-game series. It is $2 Ticket Tuesday at Standard bank Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
