CRESTWOOD, IL – The Normal CornBelters jumped ahead early for the second day in a row as the ThunderBolts suffered their fifth straight loss, 7-4 at Standard Bank Stadium Wednesday afternoon. Normal (20-14), which improved to 5-0 against the ThunderBolts (14-19) for the season wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard. Mark Micowski tripled with one out in the first and scored on a Pat McKenna sacrifice fly. In the second inning, Santiago Chirino singled for the CornBelters and Ozney Guillen reached on an error before Cameron Monger walked to load the bases with two outs. Micowski delivered a two-run single to make the score 3-0. The ThunderBolts chipped away with single runs in each of the next two innings. Ransom LaLonde was hit by a pitch to begin the third. He would score on a Mike Torres RBI single. In the fourth, Jacob Tanis hit his fourth home run of the year to cut the deficit to one. Monger extended the lead for Normal when he reached on an infield single. He stole second and third and scored on a throwing error. Again the Bolts cut it to one when LaLonde singled to lead off the fifth. He advanced on a Torres single and scored on two wild pitches. The CornBelters forged ahead and put the game away with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh. Micowski picked up an RBI double to make it 5-3. Two more runs came in when Richard Lucas reached on an error. The Bolts added a run on a Max White sacrifice fly in the eighth to make the final score 7-4. Ross Spurgeon (1-0) allowed two runs in three innings of relief for the win and Austin Wright (2-5) took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) in 5.1 innings. The ThunderBolts will try to avoid a sweep on Thursday night as the series wraps up at Standard Bank Stadium on Blitz Pro Wrestling Thursday. WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase will be in attendance and there will be a wrestling show on the concourse following the game. On the field, Zak Wasserman (1-2, 6.57) will start for the ThunderBolts. The CornBelters have not named a starter. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on wcthunderbolts.com. |
