Bolts win fourth straight

Bolts 6 Boomers 1

CRESTWOOD, IL – Austin Wright pitched six strong innings and Ryan Deitrich hit his first professional home run as the ThunderBolts won their fourth straight game, 6-1 over the Schaumburg Boomers at Standard Bank Stadium Thursday night.

The Bolts (9-13) got off to a fast start as Jonathan Garcia doubled and Austin Gallagher singled him in, making it 1-0 in the first inning. They added two more runs in the second when Max White walked and Deitrich launched a two-run homer to put the ThunderBolts ahead 3-0.

Schaumburg (10-14) got on the board in the fourth inning when Alexi Colon walked and Garrett Gordon tripled him home. Gordon stood at third with one out but the Boomers could not get him in.

Windy City added another run in the fifth without the benefit of a hit. Mike Torres walked, moved to third on an error and scored on Gallagher’s groundout.

The Bolts tacked on their last two runs in the seventh. Coco Johnson extended his hitting streak to 12 with a single, stole second and scored on Garcia’s single. Garcia advanced to third on a Gallagher base hit and scored on Jacob Tanis’s sacrifice fly.

The Bolts’ bullpen finished the game with three shutout frames to secure the win.

Wright (2-3) allowed just five hits and struck out seven in his second win this season and Boomers starter Anthony Gomez (1-4) lasted just 1.2 innings, taking the loss.

The ThunderBolts will continue their eight-game homestand on Friday as the Gateway Grizzlies come to town to start a three-game series. Zak Wasserman (0-1, 6.60) will start game one for the Bolts against Gateway’s JaVaun West (2-2, 6.06). It is Budweiser Fill 'R Up Friday at Standard Bank Stadium, with drink deals throughout the night. Fans not in attendance can hear the broadcast on wcthunderbolts.com.
