Bolts sweep Evansville in doubleheader05/31/2015 5:22 PM
CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts snapped an eight-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep of the Evansville Otters at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday afternoon. Game one began in favor of the Otters as Ronnie Richardson led off the game with a triple. He would come in to score on a Nik Balog sacrifice fly. They added two runs to their lead in the second on RBI singles from John Schultz and JD Dorgan. The ThunderBolts entered the fifth inning on a 39-inning scoreless streak, but turned things around with two outs. Mike Torres, Jonathan Garcia and Ryan Deitrich hit consecutive RBI singles to tie the score at three. They remained tied into the seventh, when Coco Johnson reached on a bunt single. He stole second and moved to third on a Torres sacrifice before Garcia’s deep fly to right brought him home on the game-winning sacrifice fly. Chris DeBoo (1-0) pitched two shutout innings in relief for the win and Evan Mott (1-1) allowed the winning run to take the loss. Game two was controlled by the Bolts from the outset. They scored two runs in the second inning on an RBI double from Ransom LaLonde and a Ryan Tufts RBI single. They added two more the following inning, both with two outs, on a Garcia RBI triple and Ryan Deitrich bunt single to score him. The ThunderBolts took their largest lead of the season in the fifth, tacking on two more runs when Tyler Clark brought home one on a groundout and Torres came up with another RBI single. Danny Jimenez (1-1) allowed only one run on a wild pitch over five innings for the win and Efrain Nieves (2-1) gave up his first runs of the season in the loss. After a Monday off, the ThunderBolts will head on the road for a three-game series with the Normal CornBelters beginning on Tuesday. Travis Tingle (0-3, 2.11) will start the opener of that series for the Bolts. The CornBelters will counter with Kevin Johnson (0-1, 4.90).
