Bolts drop opener to Schaumburg05/14/2015 8:33 PM
CRESTWOOD, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts got the 2015 season off to a rough start, dropping their season opener for just the second time in the last six years in a 2-0 loss to the Schaumburg Boomers at Standard Bank Stadium Thursday night. Travis Tingle started for the ThunderBolts and ran into his first spot of trouble in the third inning when the Boomers loaded the bases with no outs on a walk and two singles. Jordan Dean’s RBI fielder’s choice produced the only run of the inning as Schaumburg left the bases loaded. They would strand three runners again in the fourth. Tingle would go on to pitch five innings, allowing just one run. The Windy City offense had their hands full all night with Seth Webster. Schaumburg’s starting pitcher allowed two hits in the first two innings before buckling down and retiring 12 in a row. The Bolts got a man to third base for the first time in the sixth when Coco Johnson, who had reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and advanced an extra base on an error. Johnson, though, was left there. Jordan Dean hit a solo home run in the seventh to double the Boomer lead to 2-0. Windy City’s next great scoring chance came in the eighth inning. With two outs, Johnson tripled and Michael Torres walked to put the tying run on base. Clark Labitan came out of the bullpen and got Zach Esquerra to ground out on the first pitch he saw to end the threat. Webster (1-0) picked up the win, going seven innings and allowing just three singles and a walk. Tingle (0-1) was a tough-luck loser. Dexter Price worked a perfect ninth inning for his first save. The ThunderBolts continue their season-opening six-game homestand Friday night with game one of a two-game series against the Frontier Greys. Jake Fisher (5-10, 5.31 in 2014) gets the call for the Bolts and the Greys will throw Bobby Shore (4-7, 5.40 in 2014). It is also Fill R’ Up Friday courtesy of Budweiser at Standard Bank Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05 and the radio broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com. |
