Slammers snap Bolts win streak

Slammers 16 Bolts 5

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts saw an early lead disappear as the Slammers scored 15 runs over the final five innings in a 16-5 Joliet victory at Standard Bank Stadium on Saturday night.

Ryan McIntyre put the ThunderBolts on the board quickly, following Michael Torres’s double with a two-run home run, making it 2-0.

Jose Garcia hit a solo shot in the second to cut the lead in half, but Windy City struck again in the third. Torres and McIntyre singled in front of hot-hitting Ryan Soares, who doubled them both home.

The score was still 4-1 when Joliet began their onslaught. They scored three runs in the fifth with the big hit coming from Grant DeBruin, who drove in two runs on a double. He scored on a Russell Moldenhauer base hit. In the sixth, Joliet broke the 4-4 tie with six runs on seven hits with DeBruin again coming up with a two-run double. Chris Epps, Moldenhauer and JD Dorgan each had RBI hits as well. DeBruin’s third two-run double of the game, coming in the seventh, helped to put the game away. Adrian English also drove in a run with a seventh-inning double.

The Bolts got their final run on a Davidson Peguero sacrifice fly in the eighth.

The Slammers added three runs on three more hits in the ninth and finished the game with a franchise-record 21 hits.

Colin Gotzon (1-1) pitched five innings and gave up four runs and picked up his first professional win. Josh Spence (0-5) allowed six runs in five innings to take the loss.

The ThunderBolts will hit the road for a six-game trip beginning Sunday evening in Rockford. Kyle Bruegemann (2-5, 4.63) will start for the Aviators in game one of the series. The ThunderBolts have not yet named a starter. First pitch from Aviator Stadium on Sunday is scheduled for 5:05 and fans can hear the radio broadcast on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
