Bolts ride Fisher's great performance to 4-1 win07/19/2014 8:21 PM
JOLIET, IL – Jake Fisher pitched a career-high 8.1 innings, allowing just one run as the ThunderBolts snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Joliet Slammers at Silver Cross Field Saturday night. The Bolts scored in the first inning for the second straight night as Mike Torres doubled and Ryan Soares singled him in. That lone run would stand for most of the game. Both Fisher and Kody McFarland of the Slammers controlled the game. Fisher had allowed only two hits and faced just one over the minimum through seven innings. McFarland was nearly as good, allowing just one baserunner past first between the second and seventh. The Bolts finally broke through again in the eighth. Mike McGuckin led off with a double and, after moving to third on a bunt, scored on a Torres single. Torres stole second and moved to third on an error before scoring on a Soares sacrifice fly. Kyle Robinson was intentionally walked and found his way to third with two outs when Ryan McIntyre doubled him home for a 4-0 lead. The Slammers broke up the shutout with a run in the eighth when Jose Garcia walked and Jake Gronsky doubled him in. They threatened again in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs, but Jessie Snodgrass got Garcia to pop out to first baseman Davidson Peguero, who made the catch while falling into the dugout to end the game. Fisher (3-6) allowed only four hits and struck out five for the win while McFarland (2-2) gave up three runs in 7.1 innings for the loss. Snodgrass picked up his second save. The ThunderBolts and Slammers will wrap up their three-game series at Silver Cross Field on Sunday afternoon. Travis Tingle (4-3, 4.45) will start for the Bolts against Joliet’s Colin Gotzon (0-0, 4.09). Sunday’s game is scheduled for a 1:05 start and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
