Bolts ride hot bats to victory in Normal06/25/2014 9:32 PM
NORMAL, IL – The ThunderBolts scored a season-high 14 runs on a season-high 17 hits in a 14-7 win over the Normal CornBelters at The Corn Crib Wednesday night. It took just three batters to put the ThunderBolts up 3-0 in the first. Jon Mestas led off with a home run and after Mike Torres singled, Kyle Robinson hit a two-run homer. The offense broke through again in the third, when they scored seven runs on six hits. Evan Button started with a single and Ryan Soares followed with the same result. Button scored on a wild pitch and, later in the inning, Doug Joyce’s base hit scored Soares. Mestas had a two-run triple in the inning and, after Torres walked, Robinson drove in two runs on a double. Button’s second single of the frame scored Robinson. After Travis Tingle had retired the first eight batters he faced, the CornBelters got on the board in the third with three straight hits. The RBI came from Santiago Chirino. The CornBelters got another run in the fifth on a Jhiomar Veras RBI double. The ThunderBolts added a run in the sixth on a Doug Joyce RBI single and they put the game away in the seventh. After Robinson walked and Button singled, Ryan Soares hit a three-run home run to make it 14-2. Normal made a run in the eighth after an error and three walks loaded the bases before Ozney Guillen hit a three-run double, making it 14-7. Tingle (4-1) pitched six innings two-run innings, earning the win while Mike Devine (1-4) took the loss, allowing nine runs (five earned) in 2.2 innings in his CornBelters debut. Robinson, had three hits and four RBIs for Windy City, Soares had three hits and three RBIs and Button had four hits. Game three of the ThunderBolts-CornBelters series will be played at The Corn Crib on Thursday night at 7:00. Josh Spence (0-1, 15.00) will get the start for the ThunderBolts against Normal’s Chris Carmain, making his first professional start. The game broadcast can be heard through meridix.com. |
