Boomers' big second inning sends Bolts to 10-3 loss06/15/2014 4:37 PM
CRESTWOOD, IL – Kyle Robinson hit two home runs, but the ThunderBolts were unable to overcome a six-run second inning for the Schaumburg Boomers in a 10-3 loss at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Boomers started the scoring in the first inning when Jordan Dean reached on a walk, stole second and scored on a Justin Vasquez two-out single. The major damage was done the following inning when the first eight Boomers batters reached safely. Sean Mahley, Dean and Vasquez each had RBI hits in the rally before Daniel Cropper retired his first hitter of the inning. With two outs, Ryan Solberg’s base hit drove in Tyler Sciacca to finish a six-run inning. They had eight hits in the frame and were helped by a walk and an error. The Bolts got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Mike Torres singled and was later brought home by a Ryan Soares single. The Bolts tried to start a rally with three straight hits, but Jon Mestas hit a hard liner that was snared by pitcher Seth Webster, who threw to first for a double play. Schaumburg supplemented their lead with a sixth-inning run, Sciacca doubling in Dean. In the bottom of the sixth, Robinson hit his first homer to make the score 8-2, but Schaumburg got the run back on a Vasquez solo homer in the eighth. Robinson went deep again, leading off the eighth, his third home run of the year, but the Bolts would do no more scoring. Schaumburg crossed the plate for the final time on a ninth-inning wild pitch. Webster (2-2) went six innings for the win and Cropper (2-4) allowed eight runs on 13 hits in 5.1 innings for the loss. The Boomers had 18 hits total, tying a season-high. The ThunderBolts will continue their six-game homestand on Tuesday, when they begin a three-game set with the Florence Freedom. Jake Fisher (1-4, 6.20) will start for the Bolts against Florence’s Casey Henn (2-1, 2.58). First pitch from Standard Bank Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on meridix.com.
