Boltstake one of two from Miners

CRESTWOOD, IL –Matt Scioscia’s walk-off hit in the tenth inning of game one was the highlight of the ThunderBolts’ doubleheader split against the Southern Illinois Miners at Standard Bank Stadium Wednesday night. The Bolts won game one 5-4 before losing game two 9-5.

Windy City was trailing 3-0 when action resumed from Tuesday night’s suspended game in the bottom of the third inning. That would remain the score until the seventh, when Jon Eisen’s RBI single gave the Miners a 4-0 edge.

The ThunderBolts came back to tie the score with a four-run seventh inning. Andrew Brauer singled in front of a Doug Joyce two-run homer to cut the deficit in half. Later in the inning, Jon Mestas scored on a wild pitch before Kyle Robinson doubled home Mike Torres to even the score.

It stayed tied until the tenth, when Robinson doubled again. With two outs, Scioscia knocked him in on a base hit to make the final 5-4.

Daniel Carela (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Matt Miller (0-3) took the loss.

The Miners jumped ahead early in game two, scoring three runs in the second. Steve Marino, Tyler Booth and Eisen had RBIs in the rally.

Andrew Brauer’s RBI single in the bottom of the frame cut into the lead slightly, but Aaron Gates hit a two-run homer in the third to make it 5-1. The Miners would add four more runs before the Bolts could respond. Eisen and Phil Butler had RBI hits in the three-run fourth and Booth’s run-scoring groundout made it 9-1 in the fifth.

The ThunderBolts mounted a rally in the sixth, loading the bases with one out before Max White singled home a run. Scioscia drove in two more on his hit and Brauer’s third hit of the day made the score 9-5. They would load the bases again before Jon Levin pitched out of the jam as the Miners hung on for the win.

Miguel Ramirez (1-1) was the winner and Daniel Cropper (1-2) took the loss.

The rubber game will take place on Thursday morning at 10:35 CDT. Jake Fisher (1-1, 6.35) will get the call for Windy City against River City’s Rick Teasley (1-0, 0.73). Fans not at Standard Bank Stadium can hear the broadcast on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
