ThunderBolts close season with 6-2 win

Bolts 6 Freedom 2

FLORENCE, KY – The ThunderBolts scored six runs in the second inning to clinch the sixth 50-win season in franchise history with a 6-2 win over the Florence Freedom in the season finale at UCMC Stadium Thursday night.

Florence starter Patrick Robinson retired the first five batters he faced before running into trouble in the second. Seven straight ThunderBolts reached in the six-run rally. Kyle Robinson started it with a single and Andrew Brauer walked before Doug Joyce’s three-run homer gave the ThunderBolts an early lead.

The rally continued as Mile Walding drew a walk and stole second base before Evan Button singled him in. Mike Torres walked in front of Ryan Soares who doubled home both baserunners to make it 6-0.

The ThunderBolts offense went cold after the second, but they wouldn’t need any more production. Brian Oliver did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, but the first one was a solo home run for Jim Jacquot.

The Freedom would score again in the sixth. Cole Miles singled, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and crossed the plate on a Jacquot sacrifice fly to make it 6-2.

Oliver would depart after six and the ThunderBolts bullpen produced three shutout frames, including perfect innings from Jessie Snodgrass and Reese McGraw and a scoreless ninth from Michael Click, who struck out Pablo Bermudez to end the game, his 71st strikeout of the year in 50 innings.

Oliver (5-9) didn’t walk anyone and struck out three in his win and Patrick Robinson (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs in five innings.

The win wraps up the 2013 season for the ThunderBolts. They finished with a record of 50-46. During the offseason, all ThunderBolts information, including the release of the 2014 schedule can be found by calling 708 489 2255 or by visiting www.wcthunderbolts.com.
