Bolts' late rally KOs River City

Bolts 5 Rascals 1

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts erased a late deficit, scoring five runs between the seventh and eighth innings on their way to a 5-1 win over the River City Rascals at Standard Bank Stadium Wednesday night.

Until the seventh inning, the only offense came from River City’s Danny Canela, whose solo home run in the fourth had put River City ahead 1-0.

Matt Wickswat only allowed two other hits, both Brian Aanderud singles and had faced just three over the minimum through seven innings when his offense took over.

The bottom of the seventh began with a Chad Cregar single. Cregar moved all the way to third when Will Block threw the ball away on a fielder’s choice that also allowed Zach Aakhus to reach first. Kyle Robinson followed with a grounder to third; the throw came home but Cregar slid in under the tag, tying the score.

Andrew Brauer kept the rally going for the Bolts with a base hit to score Aakhus. Robinson was thrown out at the plate on the play, but the ThunderBolts led 2-1. Chase Tucker’s triple later in the inning scored Brauer.

Windy City added two more in the eighth. Mike Torres walked and Cregar doubled him in. He scored on Robinson’s base hit to make it 5-1.

Wickswat (4-9) went eight innings in all, allowing just one walk and three hits while striking out nine. Michael Click pitched a scoreless ninth. Chandler Jagodzinski (1-1) allowed three runs out of the River City bullpen, taking the loss.

The ThunderBolts and Rascals will be back in action on Thursday. Daniel Cropper (6-3, 4.69) will start for the Bolts against River City’s Craig Goodman (4-3, 3.84). The ThunderBolts open August with Bud Light Thirsty Thursday; domestic draft beer will be $1.25 and bottles will be $2.25 at Standard Bank Stadium for the 7:05 start.
