Bolts comeback for win in Traverse City

Bolts 4 Bums 3

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Windy City ThunderBolts took advantage of some Traverse City defensive mistakes as they erased an early deficit to claim a 4-3 win over the Beach Bums at Wuerfel Park on Friday night,

The Bolts went down 2-0 in the second inning when Chase Burch got a rally started with a leadoff single. Carlo Testa followed with a walk and they scored on a Sean Gusrang RBI single and a wild pitch, respectively.

The score remained 2-0 into the fifth, when the ThunderBolts put up a three-spot to take a permanent lead. With Evan Button at third and Andrew Brauer at second and one out, Chase tucker hit a grounder to short. Button scored and an errant throw from Taylor Wrenn allowed Brauer to cross the plate as well. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, Chad Cregar singled home Taylor to make it a 3-2 game. Jayce Ray was thrown out at home on the play, one of two men that Sean Gusrang erased at the plate in the game.

Windy City added one to their lead in the sixth when Ryan Soares walked and, with two outs, scored on a Burny Mitchem error off a Nathan Pittman groundball.

The Beach Bums threatened once more. In the seventh, they had runners at second and third with two outs. A Wrenn single scored Marcus Nidiffer, but in an attempt to tie the game, Ryan Still was thrown out by rightfielder Andrew Brauer to keep the Bolts in front.

Dyllon Nuernberg (5-1) pitched seven innings and allowed three runs in his fifth straight win and Johnny Omahen (4-5) gave up three runs (one earned) in five innings for the loss. Michael Click pitched a scoreless ninth for his 12th save.

The ThunderBolts and Beach Bums will continue their series on Saturday night with a 6:05 first pitch at Wuerfel Park. Matt Wickswat (2-8, 5.90) will get the start for the ThunderBolts and will be opposed by Jake Sabol (6-4, 2.36). The broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
