Windy City falters in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, IN – The Windy City ThunderBolts managed just two hits in Sunday night’s finale at Evansville as they dropped their second straight game to the Otters, 6-2.

The ThunderBolts scored their two runs without a hit in the top of the second. Nathan Tomaszewski and Zach Aakhus each walked and moved up a base on Louie Templeton’s sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch score Tomaszewski and John Nester’s throwing error allowed Aakhus to score on the same play.

Windy City did not lead for long as the Otters posted three runs in the bottom of the second. Andrew Clark was hit by a pitch and Steve Marino doubled to begin the inning. Frank Martinez’s groundout brought home Clark before Luis Uribe tied the game with an RBI single. Uribe scored on a John Schulz base hit, making it 3-2.

The Otters added a run in the fifth. C.J. Henry was hit by a pitch and later crossed the plate on an Andrew Clark single.

In the seventh inning, Evansville scored the game’s final two runs when Henry singled and stole second. Clark was intentionally walked before Steve Marino and Martinez hit back-to-back RBI singles to make the score 6-2.

The Otters used six pitchers in the game and together, they held the ThunderBolts to just two hits, a fourth inning double for Aakhus and a seventh inning single for Templeton.

Patrick Crider (1-0) pitched a strong two innings of relief for the win and Travis Tingle (0-1) took the loss for Windy City. He allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings.

The ThunderBolts will return to Crestwood Monday to take on the Frontier Greys in the home opener. Mike Recchia (0-1, 3.46) will get the start for Windy City and the Greys will throw Eric Wooten (2-0, 1.92). There will be a special Memorial Day fireworks show following the game sponsored by City Beverage. Any fans unable to attend Monday’s game can hear the radio broadcast on WXAV 88.3 fm and wxav.com.
