ThunderBolts shut down in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, IN – Ricky Zamorsky threw a complete game shutout in his first professional start as he led the Evansville Otters to an 8-0 victory over the ThunderBolts at Bosse Field Saturday night.

Zamorsky and Travis Strong matched each other pitch for pitch early as the game remained scoreless into the fourth inning.

Evansville broke the tie when Nick Schwaner singled and Steve Marino walked in front of Frank Martinez’s triple, making it 2-0 in the fourth.

Evansville added to their lead in the sixth. After a dropped third strike loaded the bases with two outs, Jared Christensen walked Devaun Williams to force in a run and give the Otters a 3-0 advantage.

The following inning, C.J. Henry and Schwaner led off with back-to-back singles before Nick Marino blasted his second home run of the series, breaking the game open at 6-0.

Evansville completed their scoring in the eighth inning, posting two more runs off the ThunderBolts bullpen. Henry had an RBI single and Marino picked up his fourth RBI of the night on a sacrifice fly, putting the Otters ahead 8-0.

Offensively, Windy City was able to manage only five hits, all singles. Lyndon Estill was the only man to reach second base all night when he singled in the sixth ahead of an Adam Davis sacrifice bunt. He was left there, though, as the Bolts were unable to collect more than one baserunner in any inning.

Zamorsky (1-0) struck out eight and did not walk anyone in earning the five-hit shutout. Travis Strong (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) in 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts and a walk.

The rubber match of the three-game set will be played on Sunday night at 5:05 at Bosse Field. Travis Tingle (0-0, 5.40) will start for the ThunderBolts against Evansville’s Ricky Bowen (First Start). The broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 fm and wxav.com.
