The Miami Marlins have announced the coaching staff for the Class-A Advanced Affiliate Jupiter Hammerheads, which includes former ThunderBolts skipper Andy Haines. Jupiter welcomes an entirely new staff to Roger Dean Stadium for the 2012 Minor League season led by manager Andy Haines. Joining Haines will be Joe Coleman as pitching coach, Corey Hart as hitting coach, and Masa Fujimoto as the trainer.
This season marks Haines' fifth in the Marlins' organization. He spent the previous two years managing the Greensboro Grasshoppers, leading them to the South Atlantic League Championship in 2011. Haines spent 2009 as the manager of the Jamestown Jammers following a one-year stint as the hitting coach for the Gulf Coast Marlins.
Haines got his professional coaching start in 2002 as the hitting coach for the Dubois County Dragons, where he led the team to the West Division title and served on the All-Star coaching staff. After managing the Waterloo Bucks of the summer collegiate Northwoods League in 2003 and 2004, Haines returned to professional baseball in 2005 as the hitting/third base coach for the Gary South Shore RailCats of the Independent Northern League.
In 2007, Haines led the Windy City ThunderBolts to the Frontier League Championship and was named Frontier League Manager of the Year. In the same year, the ThunderBolts set the league record for wins, by going 68-28 in the regular season, en route to their first of back-to-back Frontier League Championships.
The Eastern Illinois University undergrad, Haines earned his master's from Middle Tennessee State where he also spent three years as the assistant coach.
