The Windy City ThunderBolts have announced that the contract of RHP Bobby O’Neill has been purchased by the Miami Marlins. O’Neill was signed by the ThunderBolts on December 7, 2011 after being released by the Minnesota Twins.
O'Neill was a 43rd round draft pick of the Twins in 2011 out of Biola University. After three middling seasons on the Biola pitching staff, O'Neill broke out in his senior year of 2011. He went 4-6 with a 4.64 ERA in 16 games (7 starts), including a 3.38 ERA over his final 12 appearances. He posted stellar numbers in Rookie ball as a member of the Gulf Coast League Twins. In 11 games (10 starts), he went 3-3 with a 2.27 ERA and had a 4:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
O'Neill becomes the 30th ThunderBolts ballplayer to have their contract purchased by a MLB club since 2004.
