The Windy City ThunderBolts have announced the signing of another new outfielder as they near the start of the 2011 campaign. Josh Womack comes to Windy City from the Tucson Toros of the Golden League. Prior to his time in Tucson, he spent a year with the Long Beach Armada, also of the Golden League, following a seven-year stint in the Seattle Mariners system.
Womack was a second round draft pick of the Mariners in 2002 out of Crawford High School in San Diego. He progressed through the Mariners system to High-A Inland Empire, where he had his best season in 2006, batting .286 with 30 extra-base hits, 43 RBI and 17 stolen bases. In 2008, he played 16 games in Double-A and 11 in Triple-A, but he received his most publicity in 2009. While with Long Beach, Womack became an Internet sensation after video was posted of him performing bat tricks. Most recently, the 27-year-old matched his career high, registering a .286 batting average with the Toros. The ThunderBolts are also adding another speedster after finishing third in the Frontier League in steals in 2010. Womack has been successful on 43 of 52 stolen base attempts the last two seasons.
The Windy City ThunderBolts are a member of the twelve-team Frontier League, the oldest professional independent baseball league in the nation. The ThunderBolts open the 2011 season at Standard Bank Stadium on Thursday, May 19th. Season tickets, flex plans, and all group tickets (including suites, picnics, party box, & spa) are on sale now! Single-game tickets for the 2011 season go on sale Saturday, April 30th. For more information please call 708.489.BALL or visit wcthunderbolts.com.
